Tired of hearing “We’re boooored!” over and over again from your kids? We’ve got you covered with some fun kids activities that are surefire boredom busters.
Bye Bye to Boredom
We could all use more exercise these days, so why not choose an activity that’s both fun and physically active? Roller skating is one activity that fits the bill, and it’s accessible to kids of all ages. You can join us at Lanham Skate for public skating sessions, or sign your kids up for roller skating lessons here at the skating rink.
Nature Scavenger Hunt
All kids love nature, from learning about animals to exploring their local ecosystems. If you have a yard where your kids can safely wander, set them up with a nature scavenger hunt! There are lots of free printable scavenger hunts online, or you can design your own and customize it to where you live. For younger kids, they can hunt for pretty leaves, cool rocks, flowers, or pine cones. Older kids might need more of a challenge, so set them on the hunt for specific trees, plants, insects, or birds. If they have smartphones, you can even show them how to use Google Lens to identify plants and animals!
If it’s rainy or hot outside, a living room dance party might be just what you need to keep your kids entertained. Put on a kid-friendly playlist and dim the lights. If you have a disco ball, party laser light, or other funky lighting, turn it on to set a fun, disco-esque mood! And don’t be afraid to join in. Dance is great exercise and adults need that too! Plus it’s sure to put a smile on your face.
For kids who seem to have non-stop energy, a DIY “field day” in your yard might be the way to go. Let them set up their own obstacle courses and games using things like laundry baskets, chairs, pool noodles, or whatever else they can dream up.
Reading is a lifelong skill that will serve your kids well, but it’s also a fun leisure activity that can take them away to exotic lands and fantastical adventures. A trip to your local library can be great for kids (and adults) of all ages, and most libraries even have activities available. Little kids will enjoy a storytime event, while older kids and teens might want to check out activities like the board game club or book club.
